Wendy Nichol’s store is on Mott Street in Nolita, right by Cafe Gitane. She launched her first ready to wear collection just last year in 2014 at New York Fashion week, and it was extremely well received and somewhat expected. Wendy Nichol has built a cult like reputation in NYC for a style very much her own. Lindsay Lohan and Beyonce are loyal fans of Wendy’s etherial magical Lord of the Rings like style comprising silk long dresses, stunning jewelry infused with what appears to be witchesque influences.
Wendy’s muses are people that create beautiful things such as The Beatles, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Wendy describes herself as “the witch that takes you across the darkened crazy lake. I believe strongly in intuition and try to follow it. I love a powerful woman who is not interested in trends. She’s intelligent and a sophisticated woman who follows her instincts. When wearing a bag or piece of my collection, I hope you would feel the power, the spell and love that”.
Her inspiration can best be described as a mix of Victorian Goth, think black black and all shades of black, shy chic, sheer tulle, silk, leather, satin, with influences drawn from the cosmos and zodiac signs. Her leather bags and leather accessories are stunning (quite pricey, but truly unique) crafted with love, equestrian in feel, adorned with Egyptian evil eyes stitched gently into the supple leather to ward off those evil spirits ever present in NYC and beyond.
