Thanks to Noah Bernamoff of Mile End and Matt Kliegman of The Smile, we have a new Bagel store in Nolita on Elizabeth Street. The wood-fired bagel shop lovingly hand makes, rolls and boils each bagel. The bagels are a mix of a Montreal-style bagel crossed with a New York-style bagel (Noah hails from Montreal and Matt from New York). They start with a yeast-raised dough, which is then boiled in honey-sweetened water (Montreal style) and baked in a wood-burning oven.
Black Seed has a delicious selection of gourmet fillings to choose from including: house-made cream cheese, Tobiko caviar spread, tofu creme, almond butter, whitefish salad, and beet-cured lox, and the menu includes salad toppings and the option of a bacon, egg, and cheese.
According to Kelly Dobkin from Zagat, the store was designed by the trendy hOmE group, run by brothers Evan and Oliver Haslegrave and features 11 high-top seats with a view of the kitchen.
